From memory to form

A Portrait Urn begins with a memory and a recognisable profile.
Each Portrait Urn is individually designed and handmade in the Netherlands. Throughout the making process, we explore, choose and refine the details together.

How a Portrait Urn is created

01 — Getting to know the story

We begin with the story.
Who is the Portret Urn being made for? Which memories, colours and characteristics matter? Together, we discuss the preferred size and finish.

02 — The profile photograph

A clear profile photograph provides the starting point.
The face should be photographed directly from the side, with the forehead, nose, lips, chin and neck clearly visible. Several photographs taken from the same side can help us assess the profile carefully.
The photograph does not need to be professionally taken. Recognition matters more than perfection.

03 — From photograph to contour

The photograph becomes a recognisable profile line.
We study the distinctive features of the face and develop different possibilities. We agree on the chosen contour together before translating it into a three-dimensional form.

04 — From line to form

The two-dimensional profile is transformed into a fully three-dimensional design.
The form can be viewed from every side. When light falls on it, the recognisable portrait reappears as a shadow.

05 — Handmade with care

After approval, the Portret Urn is handmade and carefully finished.
Casting, sanding, refining and finishing: each stage requires attention and craftsmanship. Small variations reflect the individual making process.
Every Portret Urn is unique.

06 — Colour, light and shadow

Finally, the Portret Urn receives its personal finish.

Basic

A choice of five carefully selected standard colours.

Desire

A personal colour or colour gradient that reflects the story.

Special

An individual artistic finish designed especially for this remembrance.

When light falls on the form, the portrait appears as a shadow.

A tangible memory.
A personal artwork.
A form that continues to speak.

What makes a suitable profile photograph?
• The face is shown directly from the side.
• The photograph is taken at eye level.
• The forehead, nose, lips, chin and neck are clearly visible.
• Hair, clothing or headwear obscure the outline as little as possible.
• Ideally, please send the original image file.
• Several photographs taken from the same side are always welcome.
